Many just married couples believe that the secret to getting pregnant is to simply have sex a lot. And, although, this approach will probably work for many, the real secret to having the best chance of conceiving is to have sex at the right times.
Over the centuries, science has gradually made the mystery of pregnancy and conception less mysterious. If we hark back to our sex ed classes, we know that approximately once a month a woman has her menstrual cycle. During this time, an egg will be released into her ovary. This process is called ovulation. If successfully fertilized by sperm, this egg will eventually become a fetus and, barring any problems, approximately 9 months later, the woman will give birth to a child.
The key to whether conception takes place at all is due to timing. If a couple has sex continuously for a week, but the woman is not ovulating, there is approximately zero chance of conception taking place. Therefore, in order to have the best chance of having a baby, you have to have sex during the ovulation period.
Now, this all sounds well and good but how does a woman know when ovulation is about to occur? Fortunately, science has come up with a solution to this problem as well.
Ovulation predictor kits have been on the market for a while now. What these devices can do is to measure how close your body is to ovulation. It does this by measuring the amount of the luteinizing hormone in the body. This hormone is produced by the pituitary gland. And it is important to conception because when your body is close to ovulation, the levels of this hormone in your body will rise. There are many varieties of these kits in the marketplace and each has its own particular way of indicating ovulation. In some, the stick will change colors when exposed to the urine of an ovulating female. In others, you touch a probe to the saliva of your mouth and an indicator will let you know if the time is near.
Regardless of the type of ovulation predictor kit that you use, the best time for you and your partner to have sex is when the kit tests positive. However, don’t go overboard on the sex. More than two or three times a night is counter productive as the sperm count of your partner gradually decreases through each bout of sex.
