Cramping in pregnant women can only be an indication of a problem or sometimes a sign of just growing and stretching uterus. It can be mild to severe depending upon various factors. Following is a brief rundown on some of its major causes.

Causes During Early Pregnancy

Implantation –

Most women experience pain upon implantation which is similar to their menstrual period pain. Implantation occurs 8-10 days after ovulation. After a positive pregnancy test, there are very rare chances to experience this condition. Even if a woman experiences it after a positive test, she is indeed pregnant shortly after that.

Miscarriage –

If the condition is accompanied by spotting or bleeding, it may be a warning sign. It may indicate a possible miscarriage. So, consult your doctor immediately in such situations.

Ligaments Stretching –

As your body is preparing for your baby, the ligaments supporting uterus will stretch. It will expand the uterus more and more with every passing day, which will eventually result in cramping.

Constipation and gas –

Pregnant women also experience constipation which sometimes leads to this condition.

False labor or Braxton Hicks –

This is caused when uterus stretches and releases muscles at irregular intervals, preparing for the labor.

Round ligament pain –

Round ligament pain strikes around the second or the third trimester. While you are pregnant, the uterus keeps growing and stretching, the ligaments stretch to support your growing uterus which eventually may cause this condition.

Labor –

With the starting of labor pain, back pain is accompanied with cramping.

Some Of The Most Effective Ways To Minimize This Discomfort

1. You must avoid sudden positional changes, as it may aggravate the problem.
2. You should try to bend yourself backwards to reduce pain, but be sure not to put too much force on your back otherwise you will also experience backache.
3. If you are also experiencing gas problems, you should make it a habit to do some walking every day, preferably in the morning and evening.

However, it is very important for you to understand that there is no straight way to differentiate between normal and dangerous cramping. but, in general, If you are experiencing any pain in conjunction with any of the above defined symptoms, you must consult your doctor immediately.
