Infertility is a problem that many couples today are facing. Studies have shown that approximately 10 percent of couples will have trouble conceiving a child. Abdominal Ultrasound- This is a procedure where the specialist takes a scan of the woman’s pelvis to determine whether there is a problem with her reproductive organs.
Sonohystogram- This is a procedure where the specialist uses water or a saline solution to inflate the uterus. This allows him or her to get a better view.
Fallopscopy- This is a procedure where a telescope inserted in the vagina and goes up to the fallopian tubes. This allows the specialist to get a view of the fallopian tubes to determine whether there is a blockage.
If it is suspected that a man has fertility problems, the specialist will perform tests to determine the quality and quantity of his sperm.
The treatment option that the specialist prescribes will depend on the cause of the infertility. Below are some of the most commonly prescribed infertility treatments.
Medications- There are several medications that can be prescribed to treat infertility. One of the most commonly prescribed is clomid. Clomid is a medication that triggers ovulation.
Artificial insemination- Artificial insemination is a procedure that involves inserting sperm into a woman’s cervix or uterus. This procedure is usually performed in the case where the woman has a normal menstrual cycle, but the man’s sperm count is low or is sperm is not of good quality.
In vitro fertilization- This is one of the newest methods of treating infertility. This involves fertilizing an egg in a laboratory and then placing it in the uterus. The egg and sperm used may come from the couple, but in many cases, the egg and sperm come from donors.
