Pregnancy is not just something that the woman must deal with. Expectant dads are in it with her. It is important to be by her side the whole way through. Here are a few things to consider.
The First Trimester
The first trimester of the pregnancy lasts until the 13th week of pregnancy. First and foremost, the first couple of weeks is not really a time that she is considered to be “pregnant”. This is when she tries to conceive. When you find out that she is pregnant, it is important to make sure that you limit her alcohol consumption. It is a good idea to limit yours right along with her to keep her on track.
After about the 6th week of pregnancy, morning sickness may be common. During the 8th to 13th week of pregnancy, it is common to notice changes in her physical appearance. Her breasts may get bigger, she may have mood swings, and it may be a hostile time in your home if you are not careful.
Make sure that you go along with her to her doctor’s appointments. This will help to show that you support her.
The Second Trimester
The 14th through 27th week of pregnancy is considered to be the second trimester. During this time, you will likely see the first ultrasound pictures of your baby. You should also begin working on preparations for childbirth.
You will soon start to see the baby moving inside of your partner’s stomach. Sometimes, she may even start to feel some Braxton Hicks contractions, but this is nothing to be alarmed about.
The Third Trimester
The duration of the pregnancy is the third trimester. During this time, you will be getting ready for the arrival of your new baby. You will want to make sure that you and your partner make some very important decisions, such as breast or bottle feeding. You will also want to focus on some time to create a birth plan with your wife and share it with the physician that will be delivering the baby.
After about the 36th week of pregnancy, your baby could arrive at any time. Be on alert for contractions and time them to see how far apart they are and how long they are lasting. This is very important. You will want to get to the doctor in plenty of time to ensure a healthy delivery and the health of the mom.
