Vaccination in pregnancy: safe and efficient

featured image

As it was shown throughout 2009 A(H1N1) pandemic, vaccinating pregnant females versus flu is generally safe and can protect both mother and children. Vaccination versus whooping cough is recommended as well, while vaccines with live infection, such as nasal spray influenza vaccine, measles and rubella, must not be used in these cases. Thomas Breuer, GSK Senior Vice president, Chief Medical Officer, Vaccines, tells PROPERTY about a new technique to protect children against a harmful infection such as SRV (syncytial breathing infection), by immunising mothers throughout pregnancy with a vaccine which is presently under study at GSK.
