You and your partner decide you want to have a baby, or another one. Then you start trying. A month goes by and no positive pregnancy test. Another month goes by and still no luck. A third month goes by and you still haven’t conceived. You get a little concerned but keep trying. You test again and end up being disappointed yet again.
Why I am not getting pregnant? Is there something wrong? A lot of women start to wonder if something may be wrong when they are not getting pregnant after so many attempts. But should you really start filling your mind with worry and negatives?
We’re human so its easy for us to start worrying if something is not going the way we expect it to go. If you are trying to conceive and you are not having any success after trying, you may want to ask yourself three questions.
1. Has it been longer than 6 months?
It can take up to six months for the average couple to conceive. So, if you have been trying for less than half a year, don’t panic just yet. You’re not even considered as infertile until you have been trying for at least one whole year without success.
2. Do I have any health problems that may be affecting my ability to conceive?
There are some health problems that might make it more difficult for a woman to conceive, especially those that affect the reproductive system. If you have health problems, it is best to get those problems addressed or under control.
If you are healthy, you may want to think about getting a preconception check up so that you will know if there are any problems that may affect your ability to conceive and have a healthy baby. If there are, your doctor can give you options to help you overcome those problems so that you can have a better chance of conceiving.
3. Am I doing what I can to improve my chances of conceiving?
Some women can just have sex and get pregnant without any effort at all. If you have tried doing this without any success, it is likely that you will have to put in a bit more effort to improve your chances of conceiving. What does this mean?
It means that you may have to start doing the things that will improve your fertility like eating more healthier, exercising in moderation, avoiding the things that can have a negative impact on fertility, tracking your cycles and timing sex around ovulation, etc.
The conception process does get frustrating after a while when you aren’t getting any positive results and it can bring about a lot of worry. But, you shouldn’t worry yourself too much. After all, worry and stress is not good for fertility. Instead, start thinking about what you can do to better your situation. Work on preparing yourself for conception and improving your fertility.
