There are couples who would like to have a baby but they cannot. This is due to tubal ligation and they will wonder the best way to have a child. Most will consult with someone in the medical field and more often than not they are told to look into IVF or in vitro fertilization. Although IVF works for many couples the price is much too high for many to afford. In the end, many couples will have spent thousands of dollars and not have a baby. Not only is this disheartening but the couple may have never been told about the chances of pregnancy following tubal reversal surgery.
The leading tubal reversal center has taken the guesswork out of things. They are able to show just how successful reversal surgery is with the studies that have been completed.
From July 2000 through December 2011, 9,935 women had their reversal surgery performed. The tubal reversal staff collected the data from all patients and the center keeps a comprehensive database of all vital statistics. Statistics include patient’s age, type of tubal ligation and length of fallopian tubes following the repair. Each patient is then followed and contacted at certain time intervals following surgery. When a patient becomes pregnant they are asked to fill out a Pregnancy Report Form. All of this information is then added to the database and interpreted.
Eighty-one percent of women under the age of 30 years became pregnant following reversal surgery. As the age increases the pregnancy percentage decreased. This is not to say that those women who are older did not become pregnant. For some it took longer to conceive while others at an advanced age were able to conceive right away. Common belief is that if a woman is ovulating and has her menstrual cycle she is able to become pregnant. Although some tubal reversal doctors do turn women away that are nearing the age of 40 years, this is not done at the leading center. Some surgeons believe that as long as a patient is well-informed they are able to make their own decision.
The study also shows that the type of tubal ligation performed has an effect on the outcome of pregnancy success. Those patients with rings and clips had a percentage rate in the high seventies. Those with ligation/resection had a success rate of sixty-six percent. The lowest percentage was Coagulation with twenty-nine percent.
For those who desire to have fertility restored following a tubal ligation be sure to view the newest Tubal Reversal Pregnancy Report 2011. Not only are these studies available to couples and those researching reversal surgery it also helps to inform those in the medical community. Unfortunately, many medical students are not able to witness the tubal ligation reversal procedure and very little classroom time is spent on this subject.
