When you find out that you are going to have a baby, you will want to know if it is a boy or a girl as soon as possible. Many people do research for days and weeks to find out ways to tell if they are having a boy or a girl. Before you go on and take quizzes and tests to find out the gender of your child, you should learn more about what determines it and when and how it becomes evident.
Chromosomes
Chromosomes are strings containing genes and proteins. There are two types of sex chromosomes. They are called X and Y for clarity. The spermatozoid coming from the male parent can contain either an X or a Y chromosome. The egg from the female parent always contains an X chromosome. If two X chromosomes, one from the mother and one from the father, join in the fertilized egg (zygote), then the baby will be a girl (XX). If in the fertilized egg there is an X chromosome from the mother and a Y chromosome from the father, then the baby will be a boy (XY).
Gender Selection Attempts
For a long time, scientists have been trying to figure out which factors can make a spermatozoid, which has one or the other chromosome, fertilize an egg. So far, they have not given a precise answer to this question. However, there are many methods which women and men use to conceive a baby of one or the other gender. Some of them are based on scientific evidence while others are based on popular belief, religious belief and superstition.
One of the most popular methods for getting a boy is to have intercourse as close to the ovulation as possible. Similarly, women who want to have a girl make their vaginal environment more acidic using vinegar-based douches. Generally, doctors advise against the use of methods, which have a negative impact on the health of the mother and the future baby, such as the latter.
Gender Tests and Quizzes
There are numerous baby gender predictor charts, quizzes that you can take and even innovative tests. You can readily try the ancient Chinese predictors or a quiz which asks you how you carry your baby and whether you get morning sickness. There are also traditional home-based tests such as pouring some urine in a cup with a small amount of baking soda. There are also innovative blood tests that claim to be able to product accurate results in the 7th week of pregnancy.
You can readily take baby gender quizzes and tests, but you should know that they are mostly for fun.
