After Baby Clothes

For many women, one of the hardest part of pregnancy and having a new baby is their body after giving birth. Far too many women leave the hospital and expect to get home, slip into their pre-baby jeans and enjoy their new baby. News flash ladies: this never happens (unless you are so extremely lucky, and in this case, everybody hates you). All joking aside, it can be extremely frustrating for women to try to get back into their pre-baby clothing. For this reason, it is important to purchase a few “after baby” clothes so you don’t feel so frustrated when you come home from the hospital and you can’t stand the sight of your maternity clothes any longer and you don’t fit back into your regular wardrobe. The following are a few suggestions to help you make the transition back into your regular clothing in style.

First, consider wearing smaller maternity clothes that you didn’t wear during your pregnancy. These clothes include maternity jeans and pants without a panel, or with a demi-panel. Choose something that would have fit you around 5 or 6 months pregnant. Smaller maternity dresses and shirts work as well, and if you didn’t wear them during your pregnancy, you won’t feel so resentful toward wearing them after you come home.

Second, nursing clothes are always a great option after you have your baby. Nursing tops can simplify your life so much if you choose to breastfeed your baby. A small investment in some nursing tops and dresses are definitely worth the money if you intend to breastfeed your baby for any extended amount of time. They can also be purchased in slightly larger sizes than you would normally buy, so they will work as after baby clothes.

Third, put the stretch pants and sweats away. Even though it sounds brutal, if you just keep wearing stretchy pants they will become a crutch. Before you know it, a year will have gone by, and you will still be wearing your stretch pants. It is a much greater incentive to lose the baby weight when you are trying to get back into your regular jeans or pants. They give you a goal to work toward.

Finally, always remember black is very forgiving and looks chic and sophisticated. Invest in some great black pieces for your after baby wardrobe that can go to work, out to dinner, or something you can wear on casual afternoons and weekends. It is also helpful to remember patterns are great for hiding stains. With a new baby, and no time to do laundry this tip becomes very useful.

We spend time convincing women they can look fashionable during their pregnancies but they rarely have options for the period of time after they have their babies and still don’t fit into their regular clothes. These tips will help you deal with this period of time when you don’t fit into your regular clothes and you are trying to cover up some temporary physical imperfections, looking fashionable and feeling your best.
