I sometimes hear from people who believe that both parents could potentially influence their baby’s gender. The thinking behind this theory is that the mother provides the eggs which can produce a girl baby, while the man produces the sperm, which produces a boy baby. The idea is that these two sort of fight or race one another to determine gender.
As an example, I might hear a comment like: “my understanding is that the mom makes girl babies and the dad makes boy babies. Well, I want for my genes to win because I want a girl. How do I make sure that my genes win out so that I can get the gender that I want?”
This is a difficult question to answer because this scenario isn’t the way that things work in real life. While I believe that both the mother and the father have at least some influence on their baby’s gender, it is the father’s sperm chromosome that actually determines this, as outlined below.
The Basics Of Baby Gender: Essentially, a man produces both X (girl producing) and Y (boy producing) sperm chromosomes. These sperm chromosomes race to the egg in an attempt to fertilize it. If a Y makes it to the egg first, then you would have a boy baby. If it is an X, then you will get a girl. The mom’s egg really doesn’t matter in terms of her baby’s gender (although it can be very important in achieving and supporting a pregnancy.
How Mom Can Contribute: Even though it is the man’s sperm chromosomes that contribute to baby gender, there are things that a woman can do to have some influence. Her body can become hostile to a certain type of chromosome. For example, if a woman’s vaginal PH is acidic, this is a hostile environment to boy producing sperm. So if you want a girl, then it is going to be in your best interest to be as acidic as you can. The reason for this is that your vaginal environment contributes to those Y sperm weakening or dying prematurely and ensuring that there are more X sperm that can make it to the egg. This in turn would raise your odds of getting a girl baby.
If you wanted a boy, then you would want to be alkaline in terms of PH. So you do have some control over this and you can change your PH with douching and your diet.
The Mother Does Contribute To The Baby’s Genes: None of this means that your baby doesn’t get his or her genetic make up from both parents. Of course your baby is going to be a genetic combination of both its mother and its father. It’s just that gender is determined by the sperm chromosomes, which comes from the man. In terms of gender, the mother can control her PH, her timing, and the sexual positions that she uses, all of which can affect baby gender.
And there is plenty that she can do for her baby during pregnancy. In fact, once conception is accomplished, carrying the baby to term is up to her. So, she needs to take great care of herself in terms of her diet, her health, and her well being. It’s a mistake to minimize her role.
