Fertility Developments
Remarkable changes have happened on the planet in the last few decades not least in the area of fertility. In 1978 the world witnessed the first ‘test tube’ baby as she was referred to. And now almost 40 years later, it is estimated that over 5 million children have been conceived via in vitro fertilization (IVF).
We have a lot to celebrate for sure which is probably why Robert G. Edwards, the physiologist who pioneered this treatment, received the Nobel Prize in 2010.
Coupled with recent developments with womb transplants, it is no surprise at all that most of us have come to associate evolutionary fertility treatment and support exclusively with the worlds of technology and science.
However, while the above technologies do indeed represent quantum leaps forward in fertility evolution, they don’t necessarily represent the most significant shift in the evolution of female fertility.
There is a movement happening that will change the world of fertility forever and it can be seen in the way women themselves are beginning to engage their feminine wisdom in their own fertility journey.
Old Paradigm Fertility Support
In the old paradigm world of fertility (which is still dominant now), the doctor was the one with knowledge and the power and the treatment procedures were what was going create the successful pregnancy.
On the surface of course it makes sense that we thought like this because all of our attention was given to what was visible and measurable (one of the premises of patriarchy which has shaped education on the planet).
In this approach however the role of the feminine, apart from biological functions, was misunderstood at best. No place was given to the feminine qualities of feeling and sensing and. The thoughts and emotions of the woman and others involved in the treatment (including egg donors and surrogates) were largely neglected.
So even though the creation of a child obviously requires a balance of the masculine and feminine, this has not been evident in our traditional approach to assisted baby making.
Remaining loyal to the idea that only the visible and measurable matters, neither was the ‘yet to be conceived’ baby considered as a partner in the process or connected to in a conscious way.
A Peep into the Future of Fertility Support
(1) The powerful role of the feminine and the significance of feelings and emotions in the creative process is understood. Any technological intervention is accompanied by supports ensuring that the woman (parent) is in a good place emotionally. This is especially true for women over 40 and over 50 trying to have a baby.
(2) Everybody involved realizes that pregnancy success can only happen when the woman especially, and to a degree others around including the medical team, is in alignment with success… so when her thoughts, expectations and emotions are a match for motherhood.
(3) The yet to be conceived baby is consciously included in the process.
In a world that has been shaped by patriarchy and male values and understanding of how life works, we have forgotten about feminine wisdom and her essential role in success.
