Irregularity in periods is not alarming, but something of concern. Studies have proved, it can affect conception between 30 to 40 percent. These figures indicate that you can’t totally ignore its role in conception. First and foremost it’s important to find out the cause for irregular periods. The cause may not be directly linked to conception, but the other reason may be leading to delay in conception or even infertility in certain cases. Some of the other causes may be abnormalities of the pituitary glands or thyroid, which needs immediate attention. These conditions need to be treated first, before getting into the act of baby-making.
First of all, you need to have a complete medical examination before trying to conceive, if you have irregular periods. Having a medical examination done is good in all respects. If you do not have any of the conditions mentioned above, then the cause for irregular periods must be due to Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS). This is a condition in which the egg may not be maturing properly or the matured egg is not being released properly or at the proper time. This condition is directly linked to conception. Hence, requires immediate attention and proper treatment. If this condition is not treated, conception can’t take place.
PCOS is directly associated to anovulation. Anovulation simply means opposite of ovulation. Ovulation is a process in which the ovum, which is assumed to be of good quality, is released by the matured ovarian follicle present in the ovary. Later it travels down the fallopian tube to the uterus, where alone the ovum can meet the sperm, for conception to take place.
Conception is a very complicated scientific process, with many organs of a woman’s body involved. If you conceive within a short period of time, like for example within three months, you don’t bother to get into these complexities. The problem arises, if you don’t conceive within three months, then you start investigating and get into the complexities. This helps you to appreciate your body and the way God has made it. It also gives you knowledge regarding the entire process of conception and the complexities involved with it.
The advantage of a woman having a regular 28-days menstrual cycle is much greater than a woman with irregular periods. It’s simply because such a woman will have 11 to 13 ovulation cycles in a year and hence her chances of conception is higher than a woman with irregular periods.
