Any woman who has had a tubal reversal to get pregnant again knows the excitement of the “trying to conceive” phase. Calling it a phase is probably an understatement because it can literally consume your life.
Right after the tubal reversal we are super careful not to overdo anything. When going to lift things we think twice. Who wants to chance messing up the stitches? All the work that has gone into this surgery is not something that anyone wants to chance ruining. Every little twinge feels like something may be wrong and we begin to backtrack our movements to make sure we haven’t done something wrong.
Now that the body is healed it is time to begin the trying to conceive phase. If you have not been tracking your ovulation this is the time you will probably be starting. Catching that egg is the name of the game at this point. Timing everything just right is something that needs to be done and it can turn into quite a project.
For those that “miss the egg” the first couple of cycles following surgery it is time to kick things into high gear. There are things that the other tubal reversal patients have written about and the research begins. If there is something that is being done differently, than we are going to try it too. It is amazing what women will do to have everything just right for the ovulation. This is no longer something we are dreaming about, we are now on a mission. And we will do everything it takes to succeed. What used to seem so out of the ordinary and far-fetched are things that we are willing to try.
The two-week wait is enough to send anyone over the edge. Trying to have patience is something that takes more discipline than we could have imagined. Every little cramp could mean pregnancy but it could also mean that pregnancy has not occurred. Getting tired could mean that pregnancy has occurred but then again it may not have. All the thinking about getting pregnant and pre-planning everything has probably made us tired. After a while we begin to wonder if we are still sane. Does this sound familiar? If you are trying to conceive it probably does!
The thing to remember is that this can be a journey filled with excitement and frustration. It can be filled will despair when we go month after month trying to get pregnant and doing all the right things.
During this journey there is one thing to keep in mind. The thing to remember is that the frustration can begin to take over your life if you are not careful. There are some that can literally become obsessed with getting pregnant. When this happens life becomes a whole lot less fun. The thing to focus on is the love that brought you to this point and the love it takes to create this child.
