The general consensus is that taking a healthy diet and engaging in safe exercises is instrumental for the well being of your pregnancy. We are past the days when engaging in exercises was seen as a prerequisite to having a miscarriage. There was this misguided notion that exercises during pregnancy were the number one cause of miscarriages. Of course, thanks to research, this fallacious myth has been demystified. However, in as much as all the aforementioned is of essence, we cannot be oblivious to the fact that there are some harmful activities that you as a pregnant woman should never engage in.
It doesn’t matter whether you are in your third trimester of pregnancy or at any other stage as the safety of your baby is paramount. As a woman who is pregnant, it’s your responsibility to ensure the safety of your baby. Of course, each trimester of pregnancy brings to the fore different challenges and experiences. There are foods that you are allowed to eat in the first trimester but cannot be allowed to eat in the third trimester of pregnancy. In the same wavelength, there are exercises or activities that are not allowed at all especially for a woman who is in the final stages of pregnancy.
What are some of the activities that you need to desist from during your 3rd trimester of pregnancy? For starters, it’s important that you avoid high impact exercises or activities that could pose threats to the well being of your pregnancy. Such activities include high impact exercises such as scuba diving, contact sports, water skiing, kick-boxing a well as horse riding. Scuba diving as an activity can essentially cause gas bubbles in your unborn baby’s blood which could be fatal.
Water skiing is also another activity that portends great risks to you as a mother. The risks of falling and causing abdominal trauma are very high. As such, it’s essential that you avoid downhill or water skiing irrespective of how much you love the sport. Contact sports such as football, basketball or netball should be avoided at all costs while you are in your third trimester of pregnancy. The risks of falling or having a collision with team mates could prove fatal to the well being of your pregnancy as well as the survival of your baby.
Other dangerous activities and indulgences in your final stretch of pregnancy include smoking and drinking. Desist from taking alcohol at all costs in the third trimester. The effect of smoking or taking alcohol during pregnancy is the fact that it affects the development of the baby’s brain and even leads to premature births. It also slows down the maturity of the baby after it’s born. In summary, observing safety during pregnancy and engaging in safe activities is the way to go. It will be traumatic for you to carry your baby to full term and lose it simply because you could not avoid a few harmful things.
