Just because you’re pregnant doesn’t mean you have to start dishing out on expensive pregnant clothes. Why spend on clothes that you won’t be able to wear again for a while, if at all? You can find clothes that flatter your baby bump without ever stepping foot in the maternity section. Below are a few ideas for staying stylish throughout your pregnancy without relying solely on maternity clothes.

Bella Band: This is a must if you want to extend the life if your jeans and pants. It is also called a Tummy Sleeve and is sold at many retailers online or the maternity section in Target. It’s a stretchy band that goes around your waist and smooths out the bulges from the top button which you’ll have to undo. Some women can wear their pre-pregnancy jeans like this throughout their whole pregnancy. Try not to expect this outcome, as you’ll probably have to move on to real pregnancy pants sometime in your last trimester.

Baby Doll Dresses: These adorable dresses not only make your baby bump look adorable, but they are quite comfortable to wear during pregnancy. Stock up on these cute numbers in a couple of different sizes, and you’ll be surprised at how long they last through your pregnancy. You’ll also be happy you have them after your baby is born, when you can expect to still wear your pregnancy clothes for at least a few weeks. You can also get baby doll tank tops and wear them on top of a t-shirt or long sleeve shirt if you want to cover up a little. These are great to have in your closet, because after you lose your baby weight you can still look cute in baby doll dresses and shirts. They come in so many different styles and prints, and you can find them rather cheaply at places like Old Navy, or even cheaper by buying wholesale dresses from an online retailer.

Men’s Shirts: If you’re up for an easy and fun do-it-yourself project, then try this. You’ll need an elastic band and a few of your husband’s shirts that he no longer wears. Put on the shirt and find the empire waist, which is right below your bust line. Measure that area and then cut the elastic band that length, minus about an inch. Attach the piece of elastic to the inside of the shirt, and stretch the fabric as you sew, using a zig zag stitch. And Viola! You have a perfect maternity shirt. Of course, if this project is much too crafty for you, you can always take it to your local dry cleaner who does alterations and tell them what you want. They can do it for you for just a few dollars.
