Even though pregnancy and motherhood happen to be one of the best phases in any woman’s life, many a times women have to opt for an abortion. It’s simple. There are times when contraceptive methods like using condoms do not work out and the woman still end up becoming pregnant.
As long as the abortion is carried out in the first trimester, it doesn’t cause any harm. This is because the baby is only formed after the first trimester is complete. This is also the reason that doctors advise against any sort of abortion after the first trimester as it can pose a threat to the safety of the pregnant woman as well. Yet, in spite of everything, abortions do occur. The major reasons why a woman might have to go for an abortion are discussed below.
• When the doctors reveal the fact that if the woman continues with the pregnancy, it might prove risky to her own life or affect her mental and/or physical well being and that in order to sustain herself she will have to end the pregnancy; a woman might have to go for an abortion.
• If this kind of a mental or physical risk is seen to threat any of the other existing children of the pregnant woman, then too she might be advised to go for an abortion.
• Doctors also advice an abortion if the unborn child shows high risks of suffering from severe mental or physical disability which can be risky for his life too. This is known as termination for fetal abnormality.
• Another reason why women go for abortion is when they are suffering from domestic violence or any other kind of threats at home and fear the same fate for their unborn child. Relationship issues between the father and mother might make the mother worry about her child’s safety, resulting in abortion.
• Financial instability or poverty is yet another reason for abortion as the woman might feel that she will not be able to take care of her unborn child’s basic needs once he or she is born.
• Becoming a mother without marriage is considered a taboo in some societies and the fear of being shunned by the society forces a mother to abort her unborn child. Not all women are strong enough to be a single mother and face the problems related to it.
